Currently in Denver — November 2, 2023: The Return of Autumn

Plus, Storm Ciarán strikes northwest Europe.

The weather, currently.

The Return of Autumn

It’s back! Autumnal weather has returned! This Thursday we can look forward to sunny skies with a high of 63 and little to no wind. Even in the chillier temperatures of the last few days, it felt SO nice in the sunshine, so we should be in for a nice treat with this forecast. Temperatures will dip in the evening, eventually reaching a low of 37 at night.

Adjusting to later sunrises and earlier sunsets is always difficult. But! Yesterday, I saw one of the most beautiful sunrises I’ve ever seen on my way to work. For the first time, I was glad that the sunrise was later so that I had a chance to appreciate it. If these darker mornings are tough for you, I hope you can find something to appreciate from them, too! 😌

What you need to know, currently.

With water temperatures in the North Atlantic Ocean at far-and-away record highs, one of the strongest-ever cyclonic storms to hit northwest Europe made landfall in the UK early Thursday.

According to the UK Met Office, Storm Ciarán underwent “explosive cyclogenesis” on Wednesday, rapidly deepening to a central pressure of 950mb — one of the strongest ever recorded in western Europe. According to UK-based climate scientist Ed Hawkins, “Only two other similar events for pressure in observational records - 25/02/1989 and 25/12/1821.”

Heavy rain and strong winds around hurricane-force will affect Ireland, the UK, France, Spain, and Portugal on Thursday.
